Single-Vineyards
Our single-vineyard wines, grown in very special vineyards, are the product of much thought and labour. The origins of our winery lie in these vineyards.
Initially, it was our task to recultivate the vineyard plots, some of which had already been abandoned, and to maintain them with painstaking manual labour. It is wonderful to see that we are able to preserve and care for these valuable natural areas and at the same time produce particularly distinctive wines from the vines growing there. Careful manual labour in the vineyard all year round, strict selection of the grapes during the harvest and individual ageing in wooden barrels make these wines something very special.
Our single vineyard wines:
Wachenheimer Schlossberg
The Schlossberg towers above Wachenheim and this vineyard receives our full dedication. The 1.5 hectare terraces below the mighty Wachtenburg ruins are the place where only Riesling grapes grow. These have been lovingly cultivated by hand since 1986. The Schlossberg site is a unique terroir due to the barren sandstone soil and the altitude of 250 metres above sea level.
Schlossberg Riesling
The Schlossberg Riesling is a full-bodied Riesling with taut acidity. It is made from golden yellow, small-berried grapes that are selected by hand in the vineyard during the Schlossberg harvest and then matured in the cellar in half-barrels. The Schlossberg Riesling is an expressive, intense Riesling with a strong flavour and long ageing potential.
Dürkheimer Hochbenn
Our single vineyard, Dürkheimer Hochbenn, is located on the left-hand side of the road from Bad Dürkheim to Leistadt. Our vines develop optimally at an altitude of around 140 to 180 metres above sea level. The soil is a mix of loam, clay, marl and weathered limestone. To the west, the Palatinate Forest protects the Hochbenn from heavy rainfall.
Hochbenn Pinot Noir
This full-bodied Pinot Noir impresses with fine, grippy tannins. Flavours such as raspberry and laurel are accompanied by a fine spiciness and subtle wood.
Dürkheimer Michelsberg
The Michelsberg in Bad Dürkheim lies at an altitude of 110 to 150 metres directly above the saltworks on a limestone reef. Here we cultivate 0.9 hectares of the vineyard, which is laid out in terraces of sandstone blocks. The soil of this vineyard is largely characterised by limestone marl and sandy loam, on which we grow Riesling and Pinot Blanc.
Michelsberg Riesling
The Michelsberg Riesling is matured in small wooden barrels. A full-bodied, full-bodied Riesling is produced here year after year. Strong, soft and creamy with a fine peach flavour. The limestone-rich soil buffers and softens the often crisp acidity of Riesling.
